Seven suspects accused of vandalizing old East Feliciana Parish Middle School arrested

EAST FELICIANA PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — Seven suspects are accused of vandalizing a classroom at the old East Feliciana Parish Middle School.

The East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office received a video from an anonymous source on Monday, April 22. It reportedly showed seven people vandalizing a classroom.

Deputies were sent to East Feliciana Parish Middle School. They confirmed that vandalism had occurred.

“The East Feliciana Parish School Board was contacted and dispatched employees to assess the damage and provide EFPSO with a cost-to-repair estimate,” said Sheriff Jeff Travis.

Travis said the school board examination showed that the damage to the school was over $1,000, making the damage a felony.

EFPSO said detectives confirmed the damage was a broken window. There was also damage to ceiling tiles, a discharged fire extinguisher and furniture against the wall.

EFPSO booked Ty Shaffer, 20, Zayne Landry, 19, Jackson Day, 18, Charles Hunt, 18, and three other juveniles into the EFPSO parish prison.

All seven suspects were found and cooperated by giving statements about the vandalism, EFPSO said.

EFPSO said the suspects face charges of criminal trespass and felony criminal damage to property. According to EFPSO, each suspect’s bond is set at $12,000.

“All EFPSO criminal investigations are conducted with diligence, integrity and thoroughness. This investigation was no exception,” Travis said. “For distinct reasons, we are often unable to release information about an investigation until the investigation is completed. I can only ask that the public be patient and let the investigations run their course.”
