Dozens of children and their families gathered March 1 at the Sturgis District Library to celebrate the birthday of children’s author Dr. Seuss. Seuss’ birthday, who was born Theodor Seuss Geisel March 2, 1904, is recognized as the celebration of National Read Across America Day, and is the launching point of March is Reading Month.

Children gathered at the Sturgis District Library March 1 visited nearly a dozen interactive play stations as part of the Dr. Seuss birthday celebration. Kids had the opportunity to make blue hairpieces made of colored cotton.

Libraries and schools across the country celebrate Seuss’ birthday with themed parties based on his many book characters, including The Cat in the Hat.
