Seth MacFarlane's The Orville is going to be cut short

From Digital Spy

Seth MacFarlane's new FOX series The Orville has gotten off to a pretty good start in terms of ratings, so much that it has already been renewed for a second season.

However, it seems that not all of the 13-episode first season will be broadcast this year, as it is now being reported that the show will be losing the season one finale.

According to TV Guide, the current season will finish on Thursday, December 7 after 12 episodes – but, don't worry, the original finale won't become a lost episode.

Instead, it is being reported that the 13th episode will now air as part of the second season, likely to drop around September 2018.

Digital Spy has reached out to FOX for comment.

The change is most likely down to scheduling issues and gives the broadcaster the chance to air the entire series this calendar year, rather than leave a few episodes hanging in mid-December when all the other series have stopped airing new episodes.

While critics were less-than-enthusiastic about The Orville, it has done pretty well with fans, becoming FOX's most-watched and highest-rated debut since Empire in 2015.

The comedy series is set 400 years in the future and follows the crew of humans and aliens on missions in space.

It was renewed for a second season earlier this month, with Fox Broadcasting Co Entertainment president Michael Thorn saying: "Once again Seth has struck a powerful chord with viewers.

"He has delivered a series full of optimism, drama and his trademark humour. We want to thank him and the rest of the talented cast, as well as the producers and crew, for an incredible first season. We can't wait to see where The Orville travels in the second."

The Orville airs Sundays at 8/7c on FOX in the US, while FOX UK will air the show in the UK.
