Two restaurants in the greater Wilmington area will be the focus of upcoming episodes of America’s Best Restaurants.

Host Jacalyn Mains and videographer Michael "Taylor" Dick were filming at Rumcow at 121 Grace St. in Wilmington and at Hollands Shelter Creek, 756 Ocean Road in Holly Ridge, on Wednesday, Feb. 7. Episodes will feature popular dishes and on-camera interviews and will appear online and on social media later.

At Rumcow, owners Robert and Jennifer Becker will be discussing how they took over this business beginning in 2022.

Robert Becker, who is also active-duty military, said they were impressed with the social media outreach of America’s Best Restaurants. He also thought it was an ideal time to show off updates to the restaurant’s menu and interior.

For the show, chefs prepared their Wagyu flank steak with Thai soba noodle salad, the crispy pork belly pockets appetizer with peach chutney and fig goat cheese, and the fried chicken cornbread sliders with fried green tomato pimento cheese and pepper jelly.

Hollands Shelter Creek, meanwhile, was nominated by a customer to be featured on the show. This restaurant has been a local favorite since 1981. The rural location of the original restaurant flooded in Hurricane Florence in 2018. Steve Holland is the original owner. When the restaurant was destroyed, longtime customers Mike and Annette Barnes offered him the use of a property to open Hollands Shelter Creek II Restaurant & Bar.

Look for the three of them to discuss the no-frills vibe of the restaurant and the wide variety of seafood options, from fish to oysters to scallops, as well as the soups, salads, burgers and daily specials. The catfish sandwich and frog legs are also likely to be featured on the show.
