Serbia's ambassador to Ukraine will soon return to his post in Kyiv, with the country's embassy set to reopen after being closed since March 2022, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on May 13.

The announcement came after Vucic met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba in Belgrade.

"We discussed and agreed upon the improvement of bilateral relations, with a plan to organize an economic forum between business leaders of the two countries in the near future," added Vucic.

The meeting also touched on both nations' EU aspirations and the need for peace in Ukraine.

"I also pointed out Serbia's challenges, especially on the international stage, to Minister Kuleba," the Serbian president added.

While Serbia has repeatedly condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine, it has still refused to join the international sanctions regime against Moscow.

Since 2022, Serbia has welcomed thousands of Ukrainian refugees, sent humanitarian aid to Ukraine, and pledged to assist in demining and rebuilding the country after the war.
