September Auto Sales: General Motors

DETROIT (AP) — General Motors Co. said Tuesday that its September U.S. sales rose 1.5 percent as a big jump in car sales was offset by falling truck sales.

BY THE NUMBERS: Detroit-based GM sold a total of 210,245 vehicles last month, up from 207,145 in the same month last year.

TOP SELLER: Sales of Chevrolet Silverado pickup trucks fell 16.6 percent to 36,425 vehicles from 43,698.

HOT MODELS: Demand for new models boosted car sales by 29 percent. The jump included a 43 percent increase in sales of the Chevrolet Cruze compact car to 25,787. The company sold 7,525 of its Chevrolet Sonic subcompact, five times what it sold in September of last year.
