Separate investigations underway after 2 fatally shot in homes on Southwest, Far South sides

CHICAGO — Two separate investigations are underway after Chicago police say two people were fatally shot while inside homes on Monday afternoon.

Officers say the deadly shootings unfolded just over an hour apart on the city’s Southwest and Far South sides.

Police are conducting a homicide investigation after a person was found shot to death inside a home in the 7700 block of South Throop Street, in Auburn Gresham, just before 2 p.m.

Officers have not provided details on the age of the victim but said they were a male who was found with at least one gunshot wound to his head.

A little over a mile away, in West Englewood, a separate death investigation is underway after a 17-year-old boy was fatally shot while inside a home in the 7100 block of South Winchester Avenue.

Officers say the deadly shooting unfolded just before 3 p.m. and the victim, who had been shot in the head, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police say a handgun was later recovered on the scene.

Officers were not able to confirm whether the deadly shootings are connected and separate investigations into the incidents are ongoing.
