Sentencing scheduled for man who killed 10 cats in Escondido

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A man who pled guilty to torturing and killing at least 10 cats in Escondido will be back in court Friday.

According to the San Diego Humane Society, the defendant, Joshua Tyler Boyer, faces up to 8 years in prison for 10 felony counts of animal cruelty.

His sentencing is scheduled for Friday, March 1 at 9 a.m. at the San Diego Superior Court in North County (located at 325 S. Melrose Dr., Vista, CA 92081).

On May 24, 2019, San Diego Humane Society’s Humane Law Enforcement started investigating Boyer after a GPS tracker on a missing cat led them to the gruesome discovery of ten deceased animals on his property, along with other partial remains.

Officers seized more than 125 pieces of evidence linking Boyer to the crimes, including firearms and tools.

The investigation was a collaboration between Humane Law Enforcement, Escondido Police, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI.
