Seneca residents clean up after severe storm

SENECA, Mo. — Many Seneca residents were spending their Sunday cleaning up storm damage from their yards.

Many residents we spoke with report tree damage that occurred from a severe-warned storm that went through town around 3:00 a.m.

A tree fell on a nearby power line, causing that neighborhood to lose power for a couple hours, but power has since been restored.

Brenda Kuhn and her husband live in that neighborhood.

She says just before the worst of the storm arrived — she heard an unusual sound she believed was coming from the west.

Then, she says the winds really began picking up, along with the constant lightning flashes.

“And then the next thing we know, we started hearing things falling and I was kind of afraid that something was going to fall on the house — because that’s exactly what it sounded like – it sounded like it was scraping the house,” said Brenda Kuhn, Seneca resident.

Kuhn says when she stepped outside after daybreak – she saw a 20-foot pine tree down next to her house.

She says that tree was always leaning toward the house – and is thankful it actually fell away from the house.
