Seneca cannabis store at casino reopens amid "staffing matters"

Mar. 25—Visitors to the cannabis dispensary on the footprint of Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino in Niagara Falls were greeted by an unwelcome message on Saturday.

On the entrance door to Nativa Cannabis, the first Nation-owned cannabis dispensary in New York state, someone taped a sheet of paper with a message on it indicating the store was closed "until further notice" because management and staff "walked out." The message directed customers to contact a general manager for "further details on a reopening plan."

A spokesperson for the Seneca Nation of Indians acknowledged in response to questions from the newspaper that the store was closed on Saturday to "address staffing matters" and was reopened at 10 a.m. Sunday following "staffing adjustments."

In a statement, Nativa Cannabis said the Falls dispensary will remain closed on Tuesday with plans to reopen for the remainder of the week starting on Wednesday.

"The dispensary will be open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday this week. We thank our dedicated staff and customers for their cooperation," the statement read.

Nativa Cannabis, located on casino property next to the Seneca One Stop gasoline station and convenience store opened last April. The 2,500-square-foot facility provides cannabis products, from prepackaged flower and pre-rolled joints to vape pens, concentrates, extracts and edibles, to people over the age of 21.
