WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — After learning that Spirit Aerosystems will be laying off up to 450 workers, Senator Jerry Moran visited the facility Monday.

“I did visit Spirit this morning mostly to get an update on kind of the changes that have occurred as a result of the FFA and Boeing’s additional requirements. I also visited with a number of employees to encourage them to let them know that, I mean, the reason that Wichita is the Air Capital of the world is because of that workforce,” said Moran.

Moran later spoke with KSN, saying it is essential to get the aviation industry back up to full speed. He says he has spoken with the FAA administrator to ensure quality concerns between Boeing and Spirit are addressed quickly.

“Safety has got to be the priority. Americans have got to feel safe flying, have to know when they’re going to get on the plane and be safe and secure, but let’s make sure there’s no unnecessary kind of hindrance toward getting this workforce back to work and planes coming off the line,” said Moran.

The FAA ordered Boeing to give a 90-day safety plan to the agency for approval. That is supposed to come in the next few weeks.
