This time last month, Selma Blair was mourning the death of her dog Ducky, the 13-year-old Chihuahua-pug she adopted in 2015, following a “terrible accident.” “Run with the angels,” she eulogized on Instagram. “We miss you so much. So much, sweet girl. Please send us our next dog. With the spirit of you and wink. Our hearts are broken.”

Much brighter news came Tuesday, as Blair revealed that she’s welcomed a new dog into her home. Son Arthur, 6, is understandably thrilled.

“And so we have begun another dog love adventure,” she wrote. “Cappuccino Houston (Cappy) entered our lives a few weeks ago. She is a shy dog, and much patience and work is being done. But, already bonded with Arthur, she is a kind and dear girl. She is almost still a pup herself. And has already weaned her own babies. Now she has another needy young one. Arthur. And it is just what we all wanted. In March, Blair noted that her former pup was so close to Arthur, whose dad is designer Jason Bleick, that they had a relationship like siblings and had a “deep love for each other.”

Blair also explained that she and Ducky had become quite close.

“I’m a single mom, and I need somebody to talk about my day with, and it’s not always appropriate to talk about with my son because he’s a little too young,” she told People. “Fortunately, Ducky is 91 in dog years, so she can handle whatever I have to say!”

Their new dog, Cappy, is still young, but like Blair, she is a mother herself.
