Selena Gomez made a powerful donation to the hospital where she got her kidney transplant
As they battle the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), hospitals are in need of protective masks and gear, as well as ventilators. People across the country have been donating what they can to help, including celebrities, fashion designers, and even medical TV shows. Now Selena Gomez has announced she’s donating to Los Angeles’ Cedars Sinai hospital. This is particularly meaningful for Gomez, as it’s the same hospital where she received her 2017 kidney transplant.
Gomez tweeted about her donation on March 30th, which is Doctors’ Day. Doctor’s Day dates back to 1933, and it’s an annual day of appreciation for physicians who work to save lives all the time. The “Rare” singer used the particularly appropriate day to thank her own doctors (as well as all healthcare workers) and announce her donation to Cedars Sinai.
“So thankful for every single medical professional who is putting their health on the line to take care of others I’m donating to @CedarsSinai as they are low on masks and ventilators,” she tweeted.
“They’ve taken such good care of me so it’s my turn to show my gratitude,” Gomez added.

The singer didn’t disclose what or how much she would be donating, but we love how she used her own experiences to give back to hospitals in need.
In September 2017, Gomez revealed she received a kidney transplant over the previous summer after being diagnosed with lupus. The singer’s friend and fellow actress Francia Raisa donated her kidney to Gomez.
“I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery,” Gomez wrote in a September 2017 Instagram post. “And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me.”

The “Lose You to Love Me” singer recently commemorated her transplant with a tiny tattoo of her surgery date. Raisa also got the same tattoo.
Gomez’s donation to Cedars Sinai comes directly from the heart, and we love how she has found a way to reciprocate all that healthcare workers have done for her.
