Police make arrest in hit and run that killed family man in Cleveland

CLEVELAND (WJW) — Cleveland police said Michael Compton, a 30-year-old Cleveland man, has been arrested in connection with a deadly hit and run that took the life of 24-year-old Calvin Aldridge on April 5.

“Compton was arrested without incident and was charged with Failure to Stop After Accident on Public Roads or Highway– FATALITY– a Felony of the 3rd degree,” Cleveland Police Spokesperson Wilfredo Diaz said Saturday.

Police said Aldridge was walking on Euclid Avenue and fell, when a car, identified as a white 1983 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, hit him and dragged him several feet.

The driver stopped, got out, walked around to the front passenger side, then got back in the car, reversed, then continued forward, then fled the scene, police stated.

Police were looking for the two-door car that had a “distinct” appearance, with light-blue rims and a missing lock for the trunk, which is secured by a bungee cord, officers said. Its license plate read “316 MC.”

Aldridge’s family told Fox 8 News earlier this week that Aldridge was loved by his family, and a friend said he wanted the driver to be “held accountable.”
