'See You at the Pole' Wednesday

Sep. 25—GREENSBURG — The Greensburg Community High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes is hosting the 2023 Annual "See You at The Pole" Global Day of Prayer at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, near the War Memorial on the south side of the Greensburg Square. Organizers encourage area residents to attend as well.

"See You at the Pole" is an annual gathering of thousands of Christian students at school or community flag poles, churches, and on the internet for the purposes of worship and prayer.

The event is student-led and consists of communities all over the state, nation, and world gathering near their flagpole in unity to pray.

Students pray for their community and leaders, schools and administration, their churches and families, first-responders, government officials, the military, and opportunities to share the Gospel of Jesus.

In 1962, U.S., school-sponsored praying was determined to be unconstitutional, but prayers organized by students themselves are allowed and protected by free speech rights.

The event began in 1990 in Burleson, Texas, when a group of teenagers gathered to pray for several schools in their area.

In 2005, more than two million students in the U.S. participated, as did students in Canada, Cote d'Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ecuador and several other countries.
