See one video of the giant dance party at Fresno State’s viral Latino graduation

The U.S. Marine Band from San Diego played ‘Toro Mambo,’ to spice up the 48th Fresno State Chicano/Latino Commencement Celebration, turning it into a viral moment.

The celebration became a full-fledged fiesta on May 18 at the Save Mart Center gathering national attention from several news media outlets such ABC, Univision and Telemundo.

Look at the video shot by Vida en el Valle’s editor Juan Esparza Loera that captures the band in dress blues playing Mexican standard ‘El Toro Mambo’ with Fresno State’s Danzantes de Aztlán folkloric group dancing on stage, marine band members enjoying the rhythms and graduates and others dancing on the arena floor as they celebrated their milestone.

Esparza’s video is only of the many videos of the event that have been posted on social media, including one by Dr. Saul Salina, that went massively viral – 5.3 million views on TikTok alone.

The band also played the song that everyone knows and enjoys, ‘Mil Horas.’

While not seen in Esparza’s video, Fresno State President Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval, a folkloric dancer when he attended UC Irvine, joined in the dancing alongside Danzantes de Aztlán director Víctor Torres, Mexican Cónsul Nuria Zúñiga and newly minted honorary doctorate recipient Lilia Gonzales-Chávez.
