The new location is part of a multi-step development plan. Along with ALDI, Phase 3B plans include new sites for T.J. Maxx, Old Navy, Petsmart and La-Z-Boy, all of which will sit beside Costco.

ALDI Grocery, which has more than 2,000 locations across the nation, is quickly becoming an established, beloved chain in Mississippi.

There are 12 other ALDI locations in Mississippi, including one location in Flowood which opened in 2023.

An ALDI location also opened in Hattiesburg at the end of 2023. Hundreds of shoppers arrived at the Hattiesburg location's opening day.

It is unclear when the ALDI will begin construction.

Shopping at ALDI is a little different from shopping at other grocery stores.

ALDI is a large grocery store chain that was started in Germany by the Albrecht family. The chain is able to offer low-cost groceries because it limits expenses with a no-frills approach. That means shoppers have to do some of the work that keeps prices down.

ALDI started in 1961 when brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht shortened the name of their business Albrecht Discount. ALDI opened its first U.S. location in 1976.

Here's what first-time ALDI shoppers need to know:

  • Bring your own bags/boxes/packaging material: ALDI does not offer free grocery bags but will offer them at a cost to those who forget to bring their reusables.

  • Bring a quarter. If you want to use a shopping cart, ALDI requires you to put a 25-cent deposit to unlock a cart, much like the luggage carts you can rent at most airports. Return the cart to the corral to get your deposit back.

  • Be prepared to bag your own groceries.

  • Don't expect to find your favorite brands. About 90% of ALDI products are the store's own brands.

  • ALDI does not require a membership and does not accept coupons. The grocery chain also does not offer a rewards card for frequent shoppers.

  • ALDI has weekly specials that are here one week and gone the next. If you find something you like, go back and get more right away or it will be gone in a few days.
