See chrome for miles as weekly car cruise at Richland Mall revs up for the season

May 28—Car enthusiasts can get their fill of mirror paint, gleaming chrome and souped-up engines every Thursday evening at the car cruise in Richland Mall featuring classic, vintage and collectible vehicles.

The weekly event, which runs from 4 to 8:30 p.m., weather permitting, is sponsored by carcruises.com and Zamigas Properties, which operates the mall and other local venues where the organization's cruises are held each week.

"I've loved cars ever since I was a little kid," said Vito Capaccio, who founded the car cruise website in 2000. "Before the internet, we had to rely on printed lists to find local car cruises, so I could see the benefit of listing all the events going on in a single place."

The website provides information about car cruises across the United States.

Capaccio said cruises can be more than just a chance to see dream cars up close.

"Cars are something that can bring people of all backgrounds, ages and experiences together," he said. "Cruises are just as much a social event as an opportunity to see some really fabulous cars."

In addition to the cruise in Richland on Thursday evenings, Capaccio organizes the following cruises throughout the week:

—Mondays: Kings Family Restaurant, Monaca

—Tuesdays: Kings Family Restaurant, Greensburg

—Wednesdays: Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills

—Fridays: Union Square Shopping Center, New Castle

—Saturdays: Murrysview Shoppes, Monroeville

—Sundays: Sonic Drive-In, McMurray
