Sedgwick County to host CERT training class

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Sedgwick County Emergency Management director Julie Stimsson stopped by KSN News on Tuesday to talk about an upcoming CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training. It is a FEMA program that is nationwide.

The training lasts 20 hours, and it prepares those who respond after a disaster hits. It includes all forms of disaster, including fire and severe weather.

CERT Basic trains volunteers in basic disaster response skills, such as:

  • Disaster Preparedness

  • Fire Safety & Utility Controls

  • Hazardous Materials

  • Disaster Medical Operations

  • Light Search and Rescue

  • Terrorism and Active Shooter Safety

  • Disaster Psychology and MORE
