Section of Downtown Abilene roadway closes for Cypress Street Improvement Project: Phase 1

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Monday marked the start of phase one for the Cypress Street Improvement Project.

The first phase consists of road blockage form North 3rd to 5th streets. Texas Star trading owner, Carol Dromgoole told KTAB/KRBC, she hopes the construction does not scare away the customers.

“I think we will see a drop in traffic downtown, just because people will hear that there’s construction and so they might not want to come downtown as often, but we’re hoping to make it more attractive for them to be here,” Dromgoole said.

While the street will be blocked off for construction, sidewalks will not. This is something Flower Boss owner, Trisha Betz, took as a positive for business.

“The sidewalks are still going to be here for a while, so we’ll still have walking- walk, walking traffic. It’s just going to be the parking situation,” explained Betz.

Regardless, local businesses along Cypress have come up with way to combat construction issue and give better service.

“we’re talking about possibly adding a different entrance to our store and just trying to offer more customer service,” Dromgoole added.
