Second Texas missionary dies at hospital after Easton crash

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A Texas missionary with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who was involved in a crash over the weekend near Easton has died, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers say they were dispatched to a report of a three-car collision south of Easton around 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of Highway 41 and Manning Avenue.

69-year-old Paul Hardin was a passenger in a Sentra that was rear-ended by a Ford F250 driven by a suspected DUI driver.

Investigators say Hardin was then transported to a local hospital with major injuries. He died Monday.

Officials identified his wife as 65-year-old Mary Hardin of Helotes, Texas who died at the scene.

The force of the collision pushed the Sentra into the back end of the Chevrolet Camaro in front of it. The driver of that vehicle had minor injuries, CHP says.

The sheriff’s office says the couple was in the Fresno area from Texas, serving as missionaries with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

The CHP identifies the driver of the F250 as David Alvarado, 54-years-old, of Madera. He is said to have received minor injuries in the crash.

Officers say Alvarado was arrested and booked for suspicion of driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
