Second boy dies in river tragedy

A second teenage boy has died after getting into difficulty in the River Tyne on Saturday in Ovingham, Northumberland, police have confirmed.

The 13-year-old, who has been named as Aras Rudzianskas from Newcastle, was one of two teenagers who got into difficulty after entering the water on Saturday.

The other victim, whose body was found after an extensive search of the river, has been identified as David Radut, 14, also from Newcastle.

Aras was rescued from the water and taken to hospital, but died on Tuesday, Northumbria Police said.

The two boys were spotted in the river, close to Ovingham Bridge, at about 15:30 BST on Saturday.

Emergency crews rescued Aras and rushed him to hospital where, three days later, he died.

David was found in the water but pronounced dead at the scene.

David's mother, Aurora Radut, has started a fundraising effort to help with the funeral costs.
