Second arrest made in Tupelo shooting incident

TUPELO – A west Tupelo man facing multiple weapon and drug charges in connection with an April shooting incident where a pair of cars were damaged.

Tupelo police were called to the Burress Circle area (just off North Green Street) on April 16 after bullet holes were discovered in a vehicle. The responding officers noticed that a second vehicle was struck as well by the gunfire. The owners of the vehicles both believed the shooting happened between midnight and 5 a.m. Only the vehicles were hit. No injuries were reported.

Tony Alexander Allen, 30 of Harrison Street, Tupelo, was arrested days after the incident, charged with two counts of shooting into a motor vehicle and misdemeanor possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle.

The continuing investigation led to the May 16 arrest of Xavier L. Mitchell, 27, of Reed Street, Tupelo, also charged with two counts of shooting into a motor vehicle and misdemeanor possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle.

During his initial appearance Friday, Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Harry Sumner ordered Mitchell held without bond.
