Sebring McKinley adds 11 to NHS
Sebring McKinley Jr./Sr. High School added 11 students to its National Honor Society during a March 11 ceremony.
During the induction ceremony, two seniors and nine juniors were added to the organization.
New members are seniors Robert Helmick and Austin Sonntog; and juniors Dustin Harvey, Allison Hoschar, Katelyn Leeland, Michael Moyer, Abagail Stuller, Myla Thomas, Isabella Threet, Angelo Vecchio and Kiera Weekly.
To qualify for NHS, students must meet certain academic criteria and display characteristics of the four pillars of NHS – character, leadership, scholarship and service. Students considered for membership also write an essay regarding the organization's pillars and what they mean to them.
The group’s adviser is Nicole Rummel, a teacher at Sebring McKinley. McKinley Principal Brian Clark swore in the students. Senior NHS members Johnathan Billingsley, Emma Seevers and Blake Thomas also took part in the program, including speeches and leading the candle-lighting ceremony.
