Searchers locate missing B.C. snowboarder, shift focus to rescue efforts
WEST VANCOUVER, B.C. - Search-and-rescue officials in West Vancouver, B.C., have found a 33-year-old snowboarder who has been missing for more than two days.
North Shore Rescue says they have found the man in a gully near the Sea-to-Sky Highway but are now trying to find a way to get him out.
The Vancouver snowboarder got lost on Sunday morning in an out-of-bounds area near Cypress Bowl in West Vancouver, a popular ski destination for residents of the Lower Mainland.
But search efforts have been hampered by poor weather and the risk of avalanches, and rescuers failed to find the man on Monday.
In fact, the last contact with him was Monday afternoon when he turned off his phone to preserve its battery.
The rescue comes at a critical time because Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the region and has forecasted the temperature to drop to the freezing point near sea level. (CKNW/News1130)
