Sean Spicer hits back after 'mean' SNL parody

Sean Spicer has responded after the world laughed at a parody of him on Saturday Night Live performed by Melissa McCarthy.

He said the show had  "crossed over to mean" after the performance.

Spicer also said on Sunday that the exaggerated performance could have been "dialed back".

The Press Secretary told Extra the show had once been funny but has turned mean, and drew attention to Alec Baldwin's impressions of Donald Trump.

He said: "Alec has gone from funny to mean and that's unfortunate. SNL used to be really funny. There's a streak of meanness now that they've crossed over to mean."

Spicer also revealed he didn't know about the impression of him until he was bombarded with messages on Sunday morning.

The Press Secretary said he got so many messages he thought there was a national emergency.

Referencing Spicer’s first press briefing, in which he made a caustic criticism of the media and refused to take comments, McCarthy opened by saying: “Before we begin, I know the press and myself have gotten off to a rocky start. When I say rocky I mean in the sense of ‘Rocky’ the movie because I came out here to punch you in the face, and also I don't talk so good.”

McCarthy also insisted that during the live announcement of Trump’s Supreme Court choice there was a standing ovation that lasted a full 15 minutes and “everyone was happy”, accidentally read out an email password and later threatened a journalist with the podium.
