SDSU football new regime underway with first year head coach Sean Lewis.

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – SDSU first spring football practice started with a bang under first year head coach Sean Lewis. “Great teams communicate, whenever you guys come and your able to close your eyes as we put pads on and you hear pads popping, and you can hear the constant chatter on the football field to me that’s how you know your at a good teams practice.” Lewis said.

2021 Silver Pigskin Winner Sophomore running back Lucky Sutton from Cathedral Catholic High School reiterated his sentiments about first year head coach Sean Lewis coming into the fold. “I’ve went through five coaches since I been here, so that’s a lot of change for me. So just learning the dynamics of the offense and definitely try and stay healthy.” Sutton said.

On the receiving end of things, after day one senior wide receiver Mekhi Shaw another local product standout from Scripps Ranch High School talked about what the new term flying around the campus Aztec fast meant to him. “Aztec fast to me, means getting fast guys on the perimeter. Running plays fast, keep the defense off guard and on there toes. I think that’s what Aztec fast means to me,” Shaw said.

SDSU will have 15 total spring practices before they break for summer break. Then they will lock in and get ready for the season in early August. At first glance on paper it appeared as the quarterback position is still undecided. AJ Duffy, sophomore quarterback from Murrietta, California was running in the first group. He transferred from Florida State. Running in the second group was Danny O’neil true freshman from Indianapolis, Indiana.
