SCSO, Marshals Service issues jury duty scam warning

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning to citizens regarding jury duty telephone scams.

This comes after SCSO along with the U.S Marshals Service say they have received several complaints about outstanding warrants or failure to appear for jury duty.

According to reports, the scammers pretend to be officials with General Sessions Courts, State Courts, or Federal Courts.

The SCSO says do not provide information to anyone claiming to be associated with the Shelby County Courts, the Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals Service, State Courts, or Federal Courts.

They also say not to send any money or go meet up with anyone at any location regarding the matter. No one will dispatch a law enforcement vehicle to come pick someone up to be arraigned for contempt of court.

The Shelby County Jury Commission will never ask past or prospective jurors for financial information, credit card/social security numbers, or instruct you to purchase pre-paid gift cards to have warrants removed for failure to appear for jury service.

If you or someone you know has been contacted by a scammer, please call law enforcement.
