Scranton police officer injured in crash

Oct. 21—Scranton police officer injured in crash

A city police officer was injured Thursday when another car hit his patrol vehicle on the McDade Expressway, city police said. The crash happened about 12:45 p.m. on the outbound expressway near the Main Avenue exit. Crews closed the road there after a light post fell onto the off-ramp, Capt. Dennis Lukasewicz said. The injured officer, whose name was not released, was in a marked vehicle with its emergency lights activated in the right exit lane to help block traffic from using the ramp when the collision occurred, he said. The officer was taken to a hospital for evaluation, said Lukasewicz, who had no information on the severity of his injuries. The driver of the second vehicle, an elderly woman, was not injured, Lukasewicz said.
