Scranton fire on Perry Ave. ruled arson

Aug. 22—An Aug. 14 fire that damaged a 1744 Perry Ave. home and injured a firefighter was arson, Fire Chief John Judge said Tuesday.

The fire, which displaced two residents who were not home, remains under investigation by city police and fire investigators, Judge said. Fire investigators determined the fire was set in the second-floor front bedroom and spread into the attic. They also noted the home did not have working smoke detectors.

The Scranton Fire Department was dispatched to the home at 9:04 p.m. and had the fire under control by 10 p.m., Judge said. Part of a ceiling collapsed on one firefighter, who was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and released. Crews remained on scene until about 1 a.m.
