LONDON — When it comes to one-tweet shutdowns from British novelists, J.K. Rowling has always been up there on the number one spot.

But it looks like she may have a challenger.

Scottish crime writer Val McDermid received the following tweet on Tuesday, from a reader who apparently didn't like the fact that she's a feminist.

When replying, McDermid didn't mess around.

Unsurprisingly, Rowling was one of the first people to offer her support.

Others were quick to rally behind her, too.

More and more people came to McDermid's support.

McDermid has basically killed two birds with one stone: shut down a troll, and earned a bunch of new fans in the process.

All in less than 140 characters.
