The No. 1 golfer in the world, Scottie Scheffler, was handcuffed and detained by police early Friday after attempting to drive past a police officer into Valhalla Golf Club where he is playing in the PGA Championship, according to ESPN.

Scheffler, 27, was involved in what could be a misunderstanding about traffic patterns. Just before 5 a.m., a man was struck by a shuttle shuttle bus attempting to cross that road. The man was later pronounced dead. Because of the accident, the road leading to the entrance to the golf club was closed.

According to reports, Scheffler faces multiple charges and was released on his own recognizance.

Scottie Scheffler is a star on the PGA Tour

In May, Scheffler, in his sixth year on tour won his second Masters tournament, one of the four majors on the tour.

He's won 10 PGA tour events since 2022, the last being the RBC Heritage tournament in South Carolina on April 22, a week after his Masters win.

How much does Scottie Scheffler make?

According to Golfweek, Scheffler has earned $61.3 million in career on-course earnings on the PGA Tour.

That puts him into the Top 10 all-time, according to Golfweek.

Tiger Woods, from Jupiter Island, leads at $120 million.

For comparison, Palm Beach County's own Brooks Koepke, now living in Jupiter, has earned $77.6 million. Brooks was the former No. 1 player in the world when he played on the PGA Tour, but switched to the LIV Golf league.

What is Scottie Scheffler's personal life?

Scheffler and his wife Meredith welcomed in a baby boy named Bennett on May 8, 2024.

According to The Sporting News, the couple married in 2020 and celebrated their three-year anniversary on Dec. 4, 2023. They met in high school in Dallas.
