A subsequent statement from AMC, provided to Mashable, expresses similar sentiments.
Wilson was a prolific actor until the end, with more than 80 film and TV credits to his name. He may have been most recognized for The Walking Dead, but more recently he also played key roles in Bosch, CSI, Damien, and Netflix's The OA.
Wilson's career goes back to the late '60s, when he made his debut in In the Heat of the Night and then had a starring role in In Cold Blood (both from 1967). He went on to fill memorable roles in a number of big films, including Dead Man Walking, The Great Gatsby (1974), and The Ninth Configuration, the last of which earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
As news of Wilson's death made the rounds on social media, friends, colleagues, and fans all stepped up to share their happy memories of the actor.

Scott Wilson could slow down time in a performance and show all the pieces of what made his characters so real. He shared that magic with fans at cons. I'm one of them. Love this man🙏🏿 #RIPScottWilson pic.twitter.com/tfXgfOnH97
