At STEM night, 4th and 5th graders from Mountain View, Cherokee and North Side Elementary Schools gathered to learn about science, technology, engineering and math through demonstrations and a series of table setups.

News Channel 11 spoke with Elizabeth Bennett, a Science Hill High School chemistry teacher.

“This is our first event. We’ve had a huge turnout, much more than anticipated, which is a huge success,” Bennett said. “We hope to connect with the individual elementary and middle schools and host nights at their individual schools.”

Bennett said STEM night was started after a field trip to King College.

“I took some of my students to King University, where I went to college, on a field trip. They heard about a women in STEM club at King, and they had the idea in the fall to start a women in STEM club. Then, this came about with the STEM night,” she said.

Bennett told News Channel 11 she is proud of her students and the successful night would not have been possible without their help and participation.
