Schweinsteiger: Bayern would be 'happy' if Kimmich played right back

Joshua Kimmich should move from midfield to the right back position at Bayern Munich after also making this switch in the German national team, former Bayern and Germany great Bastian Schweinsteiger suggested on Tuesday.

"He may see himself more as a number six but many see him as a right back. He has everything to play at a world class level there," the 2014 World Cup winner Schweinsteiger told broadcasters ARD.

"I think Bayern Munich would also be happy if he said I will play right back and I will do it for the coming years. Bayern would very happy about that."

Kimmich, 29, started his career as a right back before becoming a holding midfielder for club and country in recent years.

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann, who also worked with Kimmich at Bayern in the past, has now made Kimmich his right back. He suggested that Kimmich's attitude on this issue is not perceived in the right way.

"I believe what bothers him that it is always said he doesn't want to play in that position. He is extremely open. It is important for him that he plays. And that he can help the team. And that's what he is doing," Nagelsmann said.
