Schuyler County CCE to host educational events in April

SCHUYLER COUNTY, N.Y. (WETM) — The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Schuyler County will be holding several educational events and workshops in April.

The Schuyler County CCE’s April programs include nutrition workshops, parent and child classes, and a rose-growing class. Information about the upcoming events and workshops, all of which will be held in Montour Falls or Watkins Glen, can be found below.

SNAP-Ed Presents: Food Smart Series

SNAP-Ed Nutritionist Brooke Shaffer will be teaching adults about nutrition at the Watkins Glen Public Library from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on April 11, 18, and 25. Attendees will learn about setting nutrition goals, reading food labels, and how to improve their health at these workshops. Shaffer will give a new recipe demonstration each week. Attendees will learn how to make a no-tuna poke bowl, zucchini sauté, and mango and black bean salad.

Langworthy accepting high school students’ art for Congressional Art Competition

These workshops are free, but registration is required. Those interested in attending the Food Smart Series can register by emailing Shaffer at bas375@cornell.edu or calling her at 607-535-7161 ext. 3228. Those who need accommodations should call in advance.

Parenting with Paula

CCE Parenting Educator Paula Goodrich will be giving parents two chances to attend a fun and informative day of play with their children. The first event will be held at the Montour Falls Public Library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, and the second event will be held at the Family Play and Resource Center in Montour Falls from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16. Both of the events will have the same programming.

Children who attend one of the Parenting with Paula sessions will explore “growing” pizzas, grass, and flowers while their parents ask parenting questions and explore research for parenting education. Those who attend these free sessions will have a chance to win a Jerlando’s gift card.

New CCE Chemung County 4-H club to start in Breesport

Stop and Smell the Roses Workshop

Leon Ginenthal of the Der Rosenmeister Nursery and Finger Lakes Southern Tier Rose Society will be hosting a conversation about raising and caring for roses from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 15, in Room 120 of the Schuyler County Human Services Complex. People who would like to start growing roses or who need help with their current rose bushes are welcome to attend.
