Schools in, near Baton Rouge to close Wednesday after severe weather

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – After strong storms and winds hit the Greater Baton Rouge area on Monday, some schools and businesses have announced closures for Wednesday, May 15.

Places in Baton Rouge, including BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo, closed Tuesday to recover from the weather. Thousands of people are still without power, according to Entergy.

In some areas, power has been restored and classes are scheduled to resume. Schools in West Baton Rouge Parish and the City of Zachary will be open on Wednesday.

GOHSEP Director Jacques Thibodeaux said during a recent press conference that 16 parishes were affected by the weather.
