School canceled at Martin Elementary after burst water pipe floods classrooms

GREEN BAY– School was canceled Friday for all 375 students at an east-side elementary school after a water pipe burst, flooding classrooms.

The burst pipe was in Martin Elementary School's new addition, said Lori Blakeslee, the Green Bay School District's spokesperson.

"Several classrooms have been impacted, and we currently have people (that) are already beginning to clean everything up," she said.

The school has no running water, so classes were canceled for the day.

Friday is the second day of school for elementary students in the district and the first day of in-person instruction for students in grades seventh, eighth and 10-12th.

Every parent, guardian or emergency contact for Martin Elementary students received a call, email and text message Friday morning that school was canceled.

The school also posted on its Facebook page and website to alert parents and said it will let families know by Monday if school will be canceled Tuesday. However, the plan is to have the pipe fixed over the weekend.

Monday is a school holiday because of Labor Day.

Martin Elementary is at 626 Pinehurst Ave. in Green Bay.
