School bus with children on board overturns in Columbia

HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — The Howard County Police Department (HCPD) said officers were on the scene of an overturned school bus in Columbia Thursday afternoon.

At around 3:30 p.m. HCPD responded to the 7300 block of Old Columbia Rd. The bus was headed northbound when it drove off the roadway for reasons not known.

No other cars were involved and there were no signs of the bus driver being impaired.

In a post, HCPD said members of Howard County Fire and EMS were evaluating the students who were on the bus for any injuries. As of the post at 4:07 p.m., it did not appear that any child who was on board had injuries that were life-threatening.

The cause of the bus overturning was still being investigated.
