School board selects Seth Young to become superintendent of Anderson School District One

Anderson School District One recently chose longtime administrator Seth Young as its next superintendent.

He will succeed Robbie Binnicker, who has served as superintendent since 2018 and will retire at the end of the school year.

Young will begin his job as superintendent on July 1.

“The school board has made an excellent choice in selecting Dr. Seth Young as the next superintendent of Anderson School District One. He can carry on the tradition of excellence in our district,” Binnicker said in a statement.

Binnicker added that the district's tradition has always been to promote from within. He said Young has been an employee of the district for a long time.

Binnicker described Young as intelligent and adept at problem-solving, with an understanding of the district's culture and environment.

"Superintendent Binnicker and I spent time together, observing how he handles the job's responsibilities," Young said. "I plan to meet with community leaders, principals, assistant principals, directors, and the assistant superintendent to discuss strategies to improve our school district."

Young has worked for more than 21 years in Anderson School District One. He taught math and was an assistant principal at Wren High School and Middle School. He also coached the Wren High School junior varsity basketball team.

His most recent position was director of Student Service for the district.

"Each position prepared me to become a superintendent, but serving as principal of Wren High School and Middle School prepared me the most," Young said.

Young said he has gone from managing a large school to developing a curriculum as a math teacher and building relationships with students, staff, and the community.

“I am excited to work alongside the outstanding students, parents, teachers, staff, administrators, and community to continue building upon the tradition of excellence we have here in Anderson School District One," Young said.
