School: 18-wheeler sideswipes school bus in St. Mary Parish hit-and-run

FRANKLIN, La. (KLFY) — A school bus was involved in a hit-and-run crash with an 18-wheeler in St. Mary Parish Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

According to a Facebook post by the V. B. Glencoe Charter School in Franklin, a bus operated by the school was sideswiped at about 3:35 p.m. Tuesday on La. 83 near Cypremort Road by an 18-wheeler that kept traveling. No injuries were reported.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, Baldwin Police Department, Acadian Ambulance and the District 11 and Baldwin fire departments responded to the scene, authorities said.

Officials said the bus pulled over to the side of the road, where students were checked for injuries before being loaded onto a second bus and taken to the Baldwin Civic Center to be picked up by parents.

The investigation by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office is ongoing, school officials said.
