Schaumburg man handed 8-year prison sentence for jewelry heist at northwest suburban department store

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. — A Schaumburg man who burglarized a department store in late 2022 will spend more than eight years in prison for the heist.

McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally announced that 49-year-old John Signorile, who was convicted of burglary on Tuesday, entered into a negotiated plea and was handed an eight-and-a-half-year prison sentence.

Prosecutors say Signorile shattered the front glass window of a Kohl’s, along Northwest Highway in Crystal Lake, on Dec. 30, 2022, before using a glass punch to shatter a glass display case and steal jewelry from inside.

Authorities were called to the scene because Signorile triggered the burglary alarm during the break-in.

Police later collected fingerprints, photos, and DNA samples from the scene and retrieved surveillance footage from several nearby businesses. The evidence was then used to identify Signorile as the jewelry thief.

Judge Mark Gerhardt handed down the extended term sentence.
