Former Trump communications director Anthony Scaramucci described the likely rematch between former President Trump and President Biden as a choice between “demented” and “dementia” in an interview Wednesday.

During an interview with Scaramucci, Newsmax host Eric Bolling said he will take Trump, who he described as “the 77-year-old,” and Scaramucci can take “the old guy, the octogenarian,” in an apparent reference to Biden.

“You’re choosing demented over dementia, so I don’t know. I probably would go with dementia over demented, but that’s fine,” Scaramucci told Bolling. “Listen, you know [Trump is] nuts, I know he’s nuts, but your viewers love him.”

Bolling refuted Scaramucci with praise for the former president.

“[Trump’s] crazy all the way to the bank for America,” Bolling said. “We’ve never been safer, we’ve never been more successful. And by the way, I know your bank account … has never jumped more than the four years that Trump was president.”

Scaramucci served on Trump’s campaign team and for 11 days in the White House before being dismissed by the then-president. He has since emerged as an outspoken critic of Trump and has thrown his support behind former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in the 2024 Republican primary.

Biden’s age has been a central theme of Republican attacks against the president, and a major driver of Democratic angst over his candidacy.

At 81, Biden is the oldest U.S. president, and if reelected in 2024, he would be 86 at the end of his second term.

Trump, who is just a few years younger, is facing a myriad of charges in four different criminal cases, two related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election. However, his legal troubles have not hurt him in polls — with the Iowa caucuses just days away.

The Hill/Decision Desk HQ’s polling index shows Trump with a 52.8-point lead against other GOP candidates and a slight edge, 1.2 percent, over Biden in a hypothetical general election match-up.
