Does this sexy belly button-baring gown break the Cannes red carpet dress code?
The Cannes Film Festival is known as much for its insanely over-the-top red carpet as it is for the films that debut on its silver screens. Typically, a wall of photographers will shoot actors like Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron wearing couture designs from Chanel and Dior respectively.
Cannes is usually not the red carpet to feature excessive amounts of skin, but this year, Chantel Jeffries showed an extraordinary amount of skin while promoting the film Everybody Knows.8
Musician-model Jeffries’s silver gown featured strips of metallic fabric across her chest, and waist that attached to a silver ring around her belly button. The bottom had sheer panels hugging her hips, a center slit, and a short train.
And who is Jeffries? She’s an accomplished DJ who was recently seen with the Weeknd at Coachella. However, she didn’t just attend Coachella to bask in the presence of Beyoncé and chill with the Weeknd, she also performed her own set.
And the Weeknd is weirdly what connects Jeffries to the last person who wore a potentially scandalous dress at Cannes — model Bella Hadid. In 2016, the model wore a backless red dress slit up — and down — to her waist.
Predictably, Hadid garnered loads of press for her daring look. It’s easy to see why Jeffries is following in her fashionable footsteps.
