SC man’s body found in a neighboring yard, police search for his killer, officials say

A South Carolina man was killed in a shooting and a search is underway for the person who pulled the trigger, according to the Easley Police Department.

At about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to an Upstate home after being called about a suspicious person, officials said.

Officers discovered a man’s body in the yard, police said in a news release. The man was not a resident of the West B Avenue home where he was found, according to the release.

After arriving, officers called both emergency medical services and ultimately the Pickens County Coroner’s Office, police said.

Kavyza Brown, 24, was identified as the homicide victim who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner’s office. Brown had been shot in the chest, police said.

No other injuries were reported.

The coroner’s office said Brown lived in an apartment in the 100 block of North 3rd Street, which is less than a quarter mile from where his body was found.

Information about where the shooting happened was not available.

There was no word about a shooter or shooters, or anyone else involved in the gunfire. Information about a motive for the shooting was not available.

No arrests have been reported by police, who are continuing to investigate the shooting, along with the coroner’s office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. An autopsy will be scheduled, according to the coroner’s office.
