SBU detains former Russian torture chamber guard
Ukraine’s SBU security service has detained a collaborator who "served" as a guard at a Russian torture chamber in previously occupied area of Kherson Oblast, the agency announced via Telegram on May 23.
According to the SBU, the individual held the position of "guard at an occupation facility where the Russians brought repressed local residents, including pro-Ukrainian activists."
After the liberation of Kherson, the suspect went into hiding for a while. He then joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), attempting to obscure his affiliation with Russian occupation “authorities.”
"SBU officers documented the criminal activities of the suspect and his attempts to hide from justice within one of the military units in southern Ukraine," the statement said.

The investigation identified the collaborator as a resident of Mykolaiv Oblast. At the onset of the full-scale invasion in early 2022, he supported Russian troops, landing himself a position as a guard at one of the torture facilities in the region.
The suspect is now in custody and faces up to 15 years in prison.
