Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) apprehended an informant for Russian intelligence who was preparing an aerial attack on defense objects of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Kharkiv, SBU reported on Telegram.

Air defense systems safeguarding the regional center (Kharkiv) and adjacent areas were among the primary Russian targets.

The suspect, disguised as a dog walker, attempted to identify the locations of radar stations and anti-aircraft missile complexes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces during his strolls. He intended to relay the gathered intelligence to the Russians for targeting Ukrainian military units.

Every move of the suspect during his reconnaissance activities was meticulously documented, and the SBU's operatives undertook comprehensive measures to safeguard the units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces defending Kharkiv Oblast.

The informant was arrested in the final stage while clandestinely attempting to photograph the perimeter of one of the Ukrainian military objects.

SBU seized his mobile phone containing photographs of potential targets for Russian aerial strikes.

The suspect turned out to be an employee of a local manufacturing company who ideologically supported the Kremlin regime, as evidenced by his writings in Russian Telegram channels, thereby attracting the attention of Russian intelligence. He maintained further communication with them through an anonymous chat on Telegram.

The informant also clandestinely extracted the required information from his colleagues and acquaintances.

SBU investigators have informed him of suspicion for unauthorized dissemination of information regarding the movements, activities, or positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces with the possibility of their identification in the field (Part 2 of Article 114-2 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code).

The detainee is now in custody, facing up to 8 years in prison if convicted.
