Sayre teen sentenced for Bradford County fatal crash

SMITHFIELD TWP, Pa. (WETM) – A Sayre teen has been sentenced to serve a minimum of six months in prison followed by probation on the charge of involuntary manslaughter following a fatal vehicle crash that took place in Bradford County back in August of 2023.

According to the Bradford County District Attorney’s Office, Ocean A. Hobbie, 19, was sentenced to serve a minimum of six months and a maximum of two years in custody followed by 37 months of probation on the charge which stems from a crash that occurred on Aug. 24 in Smithfield Township.

At the time of the crash, Hobbie ran a stop sign and hit another car at the intersection of Milan Road and Laurel Hill Road, causing the second vehicle to strike a pole and then catch fire. As a result, the driver of the vehicle was killed and two other people in the car were significantly injured.

Hobbie’s sentencing states that while she was not under the influence during the time of the crash, she had been driving with a suspended license for truancy.

If she fails to complete her sentencing or receives any new charges, she could be revoked and re-incarcerated.
