‘Saving Mr. Banks,' ‘Foxcatcher,' ‘Inside Llewyn Davis' coming to AFI Fest

By Steve Pond LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - John Lee Hancock's "Saving Mr. Banks," Bennett Miller's "Foxcatcher" and the Coen brothers' "Inside Llewyn Davis" will be among the featured attractions at the 2013 AFI Fest in Hollywood, the American Film Institute announced on Wednesday. The North American premiere of "Saving Mr. Banks," which stars Tom Hanks as Walt Disney and Emma Thompson as "Mary Poppins" author P.L. Travers, will open the festival on Thursday, November 7, 49 years after "Mary Poppins" made its own premiere at Graumann's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. AFI Fest will also screen "Mary Poppins" during the eight-day festival. "Foxcatcher," a psychological drama set in the world of wrestling , directed by Miller ("Moneyball") and starring Steve Carell, Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo, will make its world premiere on Friday, November 8. The Coen's folk-music movie "Inside Llewyn Davis," which has won raves at the Cannes and Telluride Film Festivals, will close the AFI Fest on Thursday, November 14. The festival also announced that its Guest Artistic Director will be iconic French director Agnes Varda, who will present a program of films that have inspired her.
