Saved by the Bell is coming back to screens, so get excited folks.

A brand new sequel series to the classic sitcom is in the works, which has also signed on original stars Elizabeth Berkley (Jessie Spano) and Mario Lopez (AC Slater).

The show will appear on NBCUniversal's new streaming service Peacock, and creators are in talks with other major cast members to appear, including Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Zack Morris), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Although Gosselaar's involvement is yet to be confirmed, the series will see the character of Zack – now governor of California – get in trouble for closing too many low-income schools, so he proposes sending the affected students to the highest-performing schools in the state.

One of those is Bayside High, and the influx of new students gives the over-privileged students of Bayside a reality check.

Jessie and Slater will be back in the fold, in what is being reported as new roles as parents, while Tracey Wigfield (30 Rock) will serve as showrunner and executive produce alongside original creator Peter Engel and Franco Bario. Lopez and Berkley will also produce.

Earlier this month, Lopez revealed there had been talks about a reunion, though admitted that a new series would have to account for their age.

"Obviously we couldn't be in high school still, so you'd have to be creative with the premise. But it's fun to think about. And who knows? You never say never," he said.

Gosselaar added: "There's talks, there's always talks. I just heard recently there's talks."
